Crossing Europe

In-I In Motion

2 hr. 4 min. | Documentary | Pegi 13

In 2007, one of France’s most celebrated actors, Juliette Binoche, embarked on an artistic experiment with choreographer Akram Khan. Over seven months, they created In-I, a stage work bringing together dance, performance, acting and cinema, which they would go on to perform more than 100 times around the world. In this documentary, her directorial debut, Binoche draws on archival rehearsal footage to trace the work’s evolution from its earliest ideas to the moment it reaches the stage. She captures the pair’s extraordinary creative energy and openness as both artists venture into unfamiliar territory. The film also develops themes explored in In-I, reflecting on how intimacy can bridge differences and how creating through a connection with another person can become a transformative experience.
