Detectives Conrad and Crab favour unconventional and largely ineffective investigative methods that somehow have a habit of paying off. Perhaps that is why they find themselves temporarily reassigned to a small town in north-eastern France, where seemingly nothing ever happens apart from the annual gem fair. Tasked with what appears to be a straightforward case, the bumbling pair inadvertently uncover a far-reaching criminal network. Beneath the trappings of an absurdist detective comedy lies an affectionate love letter to small-town communities and eccentric outsiders. Following in the absurdist tradition of Quentin Dupieux and Bruno Dumont, the film had its world premiere in the Harbour programme at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
