What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. Browser storage, such as local storage, can also remember preferences. This policy explains the technologies used by the Scanorama website.

Essential cookies and browser storage

• _octafest_key is our first-party session cookie. It supports signing in with your email address, keeping your session active, protecting forms and remembering information needed between requests. It is a session cookie, without a fixed expiry date; your browser normally removes it when the session ends, although session restoration may retain it.
• octafest-cookies is a local-storage preference recording that you have dismissed our cookie information notice. It is not an analytics identifier. It has no automatic expiry and remains until you clear the website's browser storage.

Your saved programme and schedule are stored with your account on our server. Schedule filters work within the page without storing the former schedule cookies.

Privacy-friendly analytics

We use a self-hosted Plausible Analytics service to understand visits to our public pages, film, event and bundle views, outbound link clicks and file downloads. Plausible does not set analytics cookies or use browser storage to track visitors across websites.

Analytics include the page address, referring website, browser and device category, approximate location, and catalogue details such as the item title, identifier, festival edition and language. We do not send account identifiers, email addresses or saved programmes as analytics properties. Account and administration pages are excluded from this tracking.

Plausible processes the IP address and browser user agent to calculate daily visitor counts; raw IP addresses are not stored in its analytics database. Learn more about Plausible's data handling.

External media and links

Playing an embedded trailer connects your browser to the video provider, which may process device information and use its own storage. Following external links takes you to services governed by their own privacy and cookie policies.

Your choices

You can delete or block cookies and clear local storage in your browser settings. Blocking the session cookie may prevent signing in and other features from working. The notice's acknowledgement only hides the notice; it does not enable advertising or cookie-based analytics.
