Teenager Troy is sentenced to spend 65 days in a detention centre for young offenders. He is plunged into a brutal world rife with gang rivalries, contraband and humiliation. His only hope of survival is to submit to those higher up the hierarchy, particularly his volatile cellmate, Mason. Troy’s loyalty is repeatedly tested, and any sign of weakness or emotion is punished without mercy. Yet even in this dehumanising environment, he manages to form a meaningful bond and find the resolve to hold on to his humanity. The British drama won the FIPRESCI Prize for Best Film in the Berlinale’s Perspectives section.
