About the competition
Since 2022, the feature film competition organized by the European Film Festival Scanorama presents works that reflect important and vivid processes in contemporary European cinema. These are bold films with original stylistics - their directors' creative biographies are just beginning, but are distinguished by a clear authorial voice.
The competition program aims to:
To foster European cinema, its artistic value and national characteristics;
To promote collaboration between European filmmakers;
Spread European values.
The festival's program organizers select up to 10 feature films each year. The directors and creative teams of the selected films are given the opportunity to participate in the festival and present their works to Lithuanian audiences.
The best film in the program is awarded a cash prize of 7,000 EUR, awarded by the Vilnius City Municipality.
Main Competition Winner | 2025 SCANORAMA
During the grand closing ceremony of the European Film Festival "Scanorama" in Vilnius, the winner of the main competition was announced, which was the film "Kyuka - Until Summer Ends" by Greek director Kostis Charamountanis.
The film "Kyuka - Until Summer Ends", which won the main competition, was distinguished by its moving artistic power, poetic cinematic language and subtle insight, conveying the moment when not only a season, but also a certain stage of life ends. The film opened the wounds of the past of Babis and Anna, who met on the island of Poros, and the time-breaking montage turned the summer family vacation into a nostalgic, experimental film work. The Vilnius City Municipality established a cash prize of 7,000 for the winner of the competition.
