View schedule
In a remote mountain village in Turkey, the return of an exiled clan reignites a decades-old dispute over land and harvesting rights. As old hostilities resurface, Mesut, the local leader’s brother, begins to experience visions. Convinced that they are warnings of impending danger, he publicly challenges his brother’s decisions and proclaims himself the new sheikh. Tensions between the brothers reach breaking point as opposing convictions and a thirst for revenge fracture the community. Yet salvation for one side would mean the other’s destruction. Structured like a classical tragedy, the film casts Muslim prayers in the role of the chorus. Based on true events, Salvation won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the Berlinale.
