When war breaks out in the Donbas in 2014, director Pieter-Jan De Pue begins filming the residents of Mariinka, a town on the front line. Natasha, a promising boxer, becomes a military paramedic. Angela transports essential supplies across the front line. Two brothers find themselves fighting on opposing sides, while the youngest, Daniil, watches the war from the safety of his adoptive family in the United States. Over the course of a decade, letters, calls and conversations chronicle the gradual disappearance of a war-ravaged town and the unravelling of families divided by conflicting loyalties.
