Staring Maja

Eighteen-year-old Maja lives in a small, derelict Swedish town. She dreams of becoming an actress. Maja always wants to be the center of attention, longing for someone to see her inner beauty. Only it is difficult to see: a girl with a noticeable overweight cannot communicate, something is constantly falling out of her hands. In her final year at school, Maja decides to unfold. Her path to success is very winding, full of tragic and ridiculous obstacles and preconceived notions. Nonetheless, Maya is moving forward and trying to find the strength and confidence to finally earn the sympathy of the audience.

“It’s a modern tale of people and their dreams in today’s attention-grabbing society. It’s a warm movie that makes fun of some people’s actions. We used to wait for the prince on a white horse, and now we’re waiting to be invited to a reality show. Our whole generation is convinced: if no one sees you, you don't exist at all, ”says Teresa Fabik.
