In this film, Friedrich Thór Friedrichsson returns to his subtle humour and tells the autobiographical story of an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s. Her son is an ambitious film director who hopes to win an Oscar for her latest film, Children of Nature, and it doesn't matter to her that the film is considered a failure in her native Iceland. Mamma Gogo reveals the tragicomic situations in which people with Alzheimer's constantly find themselves and how the disease changes the relationship between mother and son. The director looks with ridicule at Iceland’s political and financial structures that influenced him as a creator.

“This topic has been on my mind for a long time, but I had to wait until the lead actress Kristbjörg Kjeld, who plays my mother Gogo, gets older. It is said that you only need to make movies about what you know well. I am well aware of this issue as my mother has had Alzheimer’s for the last 12 years. Alzheimer's develops in the same place in the brain as autism - which is very interesting in my head, ”says Friedrich Thór Friedrichsson.
