Special programme “Angels of the Universe”

Elling

1 hr. 29 min. | Drama, Comedy | N/A

After spending two years in a psychiatric hospital, Elling is determined to return to a normal daily life. Together with his much stronger friend Kjel Bjarne Elling, he gets a municipal apartment in Oslo. The community and the social worker who cares for them hope that the friends will be able to take care of themselves and join the community of full-fledged people. For a person who goes through a restaurant hall looks about the same as crossing Antarctica, a new life is full of hard-to-overcome obstacles. Kjel Bjarnė meets the woman of her life. Elling is nauseous by modern Norwegian lyrics. Buddies are constantly in situations that cause them extreme nervous tension.

Elling was the most popular film of the year in Norway. For the role of Elling, actor Per Christian Ellefsen was awarded the Nordic Amanda Prize for Best Actor of 2001. The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, won the Audience and Ecumenical Jury Prizes at the Lübeck Nordic Film Festival, and was nominated for the European Film Academy for Best European Film.
