Interwar Poland. Wiktor Ruben, a man approaching forty, arrives at the secluded Wilko estate. Fifteen years earlier, he spent a summer there in the company of six young sisters, leaving a lasting impression on each of them without ever realising it. Only now does Wiktor understand how much he once meant to the women of Wilko. His return awakens memories for them all. He hopes that revisiting the past will help him face the troubles of the present, but his encounters with the women he once knew only deepen his turmoil. Andrzej Wajda’s adaptation of Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s novella The Maids of Wilko was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1980.
