Environmental activist Denver Blake sets out to expose a cosmetics corporation that preys on people’s insecurities by promoting unrealistic standards of beauty. But when he falls for Renée, a former ballerina obsessed with perfecting her appearance, Denver is drawn into the shadowy world of illicit plastic surgery. Carlos Conceição’s English-language body-horror debut offers a scalpel-sharp examination of the ideals of physical perfection promoted by science and advertising, and of the fear of the natural body - and ultimately of death - that lies beneath them. Bodyhackers had its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
