The central figure of the film is the Swedish Ambassador to Chile Harald Edelstam. He defended and rescued innocent people from the death penalty during and after the September 11, 1973 military coup. Together with Edelstam, we are watching the horrific events after the coup and his struggle for human rights, law and order. Why did he do that? And what price did he have to pay for it? Saving hundreds - maybe thousands - is another challenge for him. This time he must save his beloved from the death penalty. Another impossible mission and a desperate race against time. The film is based on real events.
Harald Edelstam (1913–1989) is a Swedish diplomat. During World War II, he received the nickname "Black Clove" (reference to the book "Scarlet Pimpernel") for helping people escape the Germans. In the 1970s, he moved to live in Santiago, Chile. There, he helped Cuban diplomats and Uruguayan political refugees escape the persecution of August Pinochet.
