Karita, a single mother of four, fights desperately with her ex-husband for the care of three daughters and completely forgets twelve-year-old son Gudmund. He is constantly insulted by other children at school. Gudmund's only friend is Marino, a forty-year-old schizophrenic neighbor who still lives with her mother. Upon learning that his mother is secretly meeting a stranger, Marino loses his temper. At the same time, policeman Gardar finds himself at work and his twin brother George suffers for it. Gardar decides to start all over again and starts looking for his son Gudmund, whom he has never even seen. "Children" is the first of two Ragnar Bragason films on parent-child relationships.
The film stars the Westport Theater troupe. Gathering the actor, the director told him to empathize with the character of a man known to them. “After that, we spent a few months improvising and exploring, constructing characters and history. Together during that time, I decided how those actors relate. Then filming began. No dialogues were written, but each actor basically knew the character of the person he played. The goal was not to play, but to be that person, ”says director Ragnar Bragason about his working method.
