Over the course of thirteen years, the creative team has amassed 45 hours of footage and twice as much audio. This unique material offers a different perspective on international politics at the crossroads of the twentieth and 21st centuries and on the events in a post-totalitarian country taking its first steps towards democracy. Vaclav Havel is an important figure in the great changes not only in Central but also in Eastern Europe. The film reveals its influence in the Czech Republic and abroad. Highlights of the film include Bill Clinton's visit to the Czech Republic in January 1994 and his unexpected "concert" at the Reduta Jazz Club in Prague, the death of Havel's wife and comrade Olga and a funeral in January 1996, and the President's 60th anniversary celebration at the 1996 Arka Theater in Prague. October, the formation of new governments after the elections of 1996, 1998, 2002, as well as the historic NATO summit in 2002. The first pension check was not forgotten either. The film shows the official and real Havel, his moments of joy, sadness and loneliness.
