At the foot of Europe’s largest glacier, seven Icelandic siblings once devoted their lives to observing the ice and the natural world, long before climate change became a subject of widespread concern. Their abandoned farmhouse becomes a time capsule, while photographs, objects and 16mm footage bring long-vanished lives back into view. Blending observational documentary with archival material, Rafa Molés and Pepe Andreu - the filmmakers behind Lobster Soup - create a poetic essay in which the glacier is enveloped in layers of time and memory. Here, the melting ice is both an awe-inspiring sight and an emblem of loss. La Pietà is a quiet expression of ecological grief and a meditation on humanity’s belated attempts to protect what once shaped our existence.
