Alf is nearing forty, but instead of finding a “proper” job, he still lives with his overprotective mother Monica in Norrköping, earning a living by performing diabolo routines on the streets. As he wanders through the city, Alf observes its shifting cultural and social landscape, while urban spaces and fragments of everyday life form the fabric of the film. Shot on black-and-white 16mm, this hybrid work nods to the early films of Jim Jarmusch, with snippets of conversation gradually revealing a subtle psychological and political portrait of contemporary Sweden. John and Anita Holm, who play Alf and Monica, are also mother and son in real life.
