The Alentejo region of Portugal was once a major tourist attraction thanks to its dolmens –ancient structures built from massive stone slabs. Today, the landscape has emptied of people, filled only with herds of goats and hypnotic vegetation. In her debut hybrid film, director Maureen Fazendeiro, who previously collaborated with Miguel Gomes, explores the layers of the region’s history and cultural memory, drawing on archaeologists’ journals, as well as the songs and legends of local inhabitants.
