The Engels family, living in a bohemian Berlin apartment, finds itself in crisis. Each member leads an unhappy, isolated life, and apart from their shared home, nothing seems to hold them together. After the death of their housekeeper, a mysterious Syrian immigrant, Fara, is hired. She offers the dysfunctional family an experimental therapy using light. From Tom Tykwer, the legendary director of Run Lola Run, this film – which opened this year’s Berlin Film Festival – reflects on the apathy of contemporary German society against the backdrop of global events.
