In 1959, Jean-Luc Godard longs to finally become famous as a director, envying his fellow Cahiers du cinéma critics Truffaut and Chabrol. He wants to make a sincere and honest film, so he begins shooting Breathless on the streets of Paris, driving his producer crazy and ignoring the demands of lead actress Jean Seberg. Presented at Cannes, American director Richard Linklater’s vision of the making of the most important film of the French New Wave echoes not only the style of that work, but also the vibrant spirit of independent creation and freedom.
