In his interpretation of The Trial, director Algimantas Puipa depicts Jozef K. as a cinephile watching the adventures of Chaplin and Lloyd in the cinema hall. The cinema becomes a hiding place for Jozef K., where the officials nevertheless appear and do not leave him alone. According to Puipa, "Joseph K.'s comic guilt lies in his sanity, in his healthy human reactions to an absurd act".
