Artificial intelligence is more and more used not only in business and mass manufacturing, but also in creative industries. Film production studios in the US and Europe more and more often use articifial intelligence for script writing, persona creation, film editing, shooting commercials. The audience in the cinema theatre has no idea that parts of the film were being created by artificial algorithms and producers can benefit from savings by reducing authors' fees. What are artificial intelligence's pros and cons in the contemporary film industry? What future perspectives await us? Will artificial intelligence finally replace the author?
Participants:
Antanas Skucas, a film director and data artist, lecturer at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. Since 2005 he has been working in animation. His debut animation short “Childhood Diary” (2009) was awarded by the Lithuanian Silver Crane Award. In 2015 he established a film production company “Tylus kinas”. Also works with new media, XR, VR, AR, and AI. This year he presented an art project “M. K. Ciurlionis AI”, looking for answers to whether artificial intelligence is capable to create art. Soon Antanas Skucas’ and Julius Zubavicius’ film “Robots and Planets”, created utilizin artificial intelligence, will be presented to the public.
Andrius Iskauskas, an attorney, having more than 15 years of experience in the fields of technology law, media law, intellectual property, and other. Wide expertise in the technological industry, putting emphasis on new technologies, new tendencies, and how the law can be in tack with them.
Dr. Nerijus Cepulis, a philosopher and associate professor at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities. His research areas include communication, media, cinema, and the ethics of artificial intelligence. Lectures on communication and information management.
Saulius Baradinskas, a film director, also directs commercials and music videos. His short film “Techno, Mama” (2021), which last year was awarded as the best short film at Scanorama’s “New Baltic Cinema” program, premiered at the Venice Film Festival Horizons competition. It also was awarded by national “Silver Crane” award as well as is an official candidate for The European Film Academy awards in the short film category. In 2020 Saulius participated in the Berlinale Talents program. In his debut short film “Golden Minutes” (2019), shot in one take, the main role was created by famous Scottish actor Billy Boyd. Saulius has directed and filmed various projects in the Baltic States, Japan, the UK, France, and Germany.
Vytis Puronas, associate professor of the Department of Film and Television at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater. A film sound designer and re-recording mixer whose work encompasses audio post-production, restoration, VR, electronic music, and interactive art. In 2008 he earned MA in Sound Arts from LCC, University of the Arts in London. Develops artificial intelligence usage in film sound design. The first prototype was presented in Singapore, and further developed in partnership with Griffith Film School in Australia.

Laura Baskeviciene, Director of Association LATGA. Lawyer, long years working in author’s rights and collective rights administration areas. The board member of the European Grouping of Societies of Authors and Composers (GESAC). During her work practice as a LATGA lawyer, collected extensive experience in managing cases of author’s rights infringement, which currently enables her to lead the association, uniting nearly 6000 authors from different areas.
