Helene (actress Martina Gedeck) is living in a silent despair, trapped in a stressful marriage, struggling with insomnia. After a friend of hers dies, she feels as if God himself had given up on her. She reaches out to a famous psychologist Eduard E. Gluck (actor U.Tukur), who claims to be an expert in helping people to attain peace and happiness. Eventually it becomes apparent that E.Gluck himself is in need of help. Hesitantly at first, the one moves closer to the other - and both give themselves into a world where love is a test as well as a promise.
