In the Andes of Peru, in the mines of Rinconada, the lights are blinking: in this never-ending night, people are crawling up and down the insides of the mountain with the lights mounted on top of their helmets. They tell the story about the unbearable poverty which led them here, about how they learnt to find gold in a piece of stone, about the sacrifices one has to make to the goddesses of the Earth, about the lack of love and the loneliness, about shamans and merchants, about fear, violence and despair.
Hypnotic darkness of the depths is replaced by the landscapes of cliffs covered in thick mist, by the shots of invisible people trying to fight for their rights and by a mad masked dancing around the bonfire.
This film is a meticulously and sensibly build creative documentary exploring not only the daily routine of the miners in desolate lands, but also the feelings which are common to all of us: fears, aspirations and desires.
