This film is based on Erja Dammert's documentary Children of War (Sotalapset, 2004). 70,000 children were evacuated from war-torn Finland to Sweden during World War II. Nine Ero is one of them. When his father died in the war, Ero’s mother puts him in the care of a Swedish couple of farmers. Since the boy does not speak Swedish, he feels completely alone and abandoned by everyone. The woman who hugged him, Signe, looks harsh and unpleasant, but her husband immediately falls in love with Ero as his son. The child longs for his real mother, who is preparing to go to Germany with her new beloved German. Ero tries to earn the tenderness of his fake mother Signe. It turns out that Signe has lost her daughter, but little by little she is also attached to the boy. But it is when a child falls in love with his second mother that he is forced to leave his precious home ...
