A short biography of Karen Bliksen. The world of ten-year-old Karen Bliksen collapses when her beloved father commits suicide. At 24, she falls madly in love with her cousin Hans. Her desperate love lasts for several years, then she decides to marry his twin brother, Bror Blixen. Karen and Bror Bliksen emigrate to Africa. But there the Bliksen farm is in trouble. The situation is further exacerbated by the fact that Karen is infected with syphilis. The consequences of the disease are dire as Karen is treated with mercury tablets. The marriage breaks down, and for many years Karen Bliksen takes care of her own farm. She falls in love with the English aristocrat Denis Finch Baton, but he dies in a plane crash a few years later. Forced by financial difficulties, Karen sells the farm and returns to Denmark with her mother. Karen is looking for a new purpose in life and a new profession. Her books are refused permission in Denmark and the UK. In the United States, however, her work, Seven Gothic Stories, is recognized as the book of the month. Under the pseudonym of Isaac Dinesen, Karen Bliksen becomes a world-renowned writer overnight.
