Scanorama presents Lithuanian distribution of Pacifiction by Albert Serra, challenging all the conventions of conformity. An exotic tale under the Tahitian sun blends with a colonialist thriller in apocalyptic settings under nuclear threat. Political dimension, literally inhabiting the suspension, helps to reveal contemporary bourgeois imagery. Exotic plot and a feast of imagery open up the world of fantasy, complexity and contradictions. Pacifiction is the favourite film in the main Cannes 2022 competition by Scanorama's programmer Dmitrij Gluscevskij.
Charlotte Pavard for Festival de Cannes asked the Spanish director, what is the artistic link between his film The Death of Louis XIV, Liberté and his newest work Pafiction.
"The work with the actors, the abandonment, the obsession to create images with new and never seen before atmospheres, the subtle distortion of the perception of space and time, and the extreme exploitation of the elusive and ambiguous potential of each image", replied the director, known for improvisational shooting and extensive editing process.
Albert Serra can be presented as one of the central figures of the European film scene of the last couple of decades. After the director's victories in Turin in 2006 and Locarno 2013, the Pacifiction was included in the main Cannes competition in 2022.
Pacifiction will be shown in 8 Lithuanian cities from January 6th. Later the film will move to Lithuanian VOD platforms.
