One ordinary day, forty-year-old crane operator Thomas receives a call from his wife, Carla, while at work. She is in hospital, having survived a car accident that killed her dance partner. Still in shock, Carla tries to speak openly and honestly about the accident and her relationship with the man who died, but Thomas struggles to understand her and begins to withdraw. A master of cinematic minimalism, Angela Schanelec explores the failure of communication between two people and their fragile search for a shared language. The film premiered in the Berlinale Competition.
