On the eve of a family holiday in Tenerife, Jessie dies tragically. A year later, the pain remains raw as her mother, younger sister and boyfriend each struggle to live with their grief. Bound by loss, the three embark on the holiday that never happened. Beneath the Tenerife sun, memories stir back to life and the past begins to offer the possibility of healing. Wollner deftly folds past into present, weaving together grief, guilt and responsibility. She describes the screenplay as ‘a gentle drift into surrealism while remaining firmly grounded in reality’ - a delicate balance captured in the film’s luminous atmosphere by Aftersun cinematographer Gregory Oke. Formally inventive, Everytime won the Un Certain Regard Prize, the section’s top award, at the Cannes Film Fest

Sandra Wollner

Sandra Wollner (b. 1983) is an Austrian writer-director. She studied documentary filmmaking at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg. Shot on 16mm, her feature debut, The Impossible Picture, won numerous awards, including the German Film Critics Award for Best Feature Film. Her second feature, The Trouble with Being Born, received the Special Jury Award in the Berlinale’s Encounters section in 2020, as well as the Grand Diagonale Prize for Best Austrian Feature Film. Wollner lives in Berlin.
