Yangon, present-day Myanmar, 1917. Edward, a British imperial servant, is engaged to Molly, but runs away on the day of the wedding. On his journey, panic gradually gives way to melancholy. While reflecting on the insignificance of his own existence, Edward keeps thinking about Molly. And Molly, not giving up the idea of marriage and amused by Edward's cowardly act, follows her fiancé's footsteps through the lands of Asia.
