Toledo, 1808. The city has been occupied by French Napoleonic troops. They execute a group of Spanish rebels who cry out "Long live chains!" A professor of a Police academy gives lectures about polygamy and sexual practices in Melanesia. Intellectuals have a discussion sitting on the closets complaining about the Earth soiled with excrements. The prefect receives a call from his dead sister having a phone in her coffin. A series of surreal sequences critique bourgeois society and it’s morality in a stream of consciousness style and creates a thematic and stylistic quintessence of Buñuel’s work.
