"Does it say how you make a son?"
The birdwatcher Esmar and his wife Johanna lives a simple, but good life with their three daughters on a small patch of land. However, according to Faroese law, Esmar will be forced to leave both his house and his land unless he makes sure he has a son. To protect his livelihood and his family from the dubious landowner Såmal, Esmar is forced to accept an arrangement he thinks is their last and best chance – to jointly find another man who can make Johanna with children.
