1943. A 15-year-old Stig from Stockholm comes to Malmö. His 37-year-old teacher Viola suddenly catches his eye. The two begin a forbidden and passionate affair. Viola’s depressed and chronically alcoholic husband knows all about the affair and does nothing to stop it. He also becomes Stig’s friend, teaches the boy much about classical music and shares his sorrowful stories. Stig decides to end his affair with Viola, but she becomes violent. The last film by Bo Widerberg reveals a creative and destructive nature of lust presenting this contradiction as eternal constant.
