Kon-Tiki is a raft by Norwegian researcher and writer Thor Heyerdahl, with which he and his team crossed the Pacific Ocean from South America to the Polynesian Islands in 1947. Heyerdahl believed that the people of South America could reach Polynesia even before Columbus. The Kon-Tiki raft was built only from such materials and using only such technologies that were available to the people of that time. This succeeded in proving that there were no technological obstacles before Columbus reached the Polynesian islands. On April 28, 1947, Heyerdahl left Peru for a team of five more people. After covering 6,200 kilometers in 101 days, the raft hit the reefs of Tuamotu Island right next to the land. All members of the expedition escaped and happily reached their destination.
