In 1968, Knut Pedersen arrives in Larvik dreaming of living as a modest bourgeoisie. His dissatisfaction with social injustice pushes him into the Communist Party. Pedersen is gentle and intellectual, he doubts the extreme ideas of the revolution. Only by falling in love with the young and beautiful friend of the party, Nina, does he believe that absurd and utopian ideas can be implemented. However, both he and Nina have to experience a very dramatic collapse of these illusions.
