Jar City tells two stories. The first is about a person who breaks into a genetic database. It contains all the medical information about the people of Iceland. He wants to find out his genealogy because his daughter has died of an inherited disease unknown to the family. Another story revolves around the investigation into the murder of an old man. The investigation finds very unusual evidence that reveals far greater secrets than the murder of an old man. Secrets that have been heavily preserved in the genetic bloodline of the entire nation.
