Three sisters – Sachi, Yoshino and Chika – live together in a large house in the city of Kamakura. When their father – absent from the family home for the last 15 years – dies, they travel to the countryside for his funeral, and meet their shy teenage half-sister. Bonding quickly with the orphaned Suzu, they invite her to live with them. Suzu eagerly agrees, and a new life of joyful discovery begins for the four siblings...

Kore-eda Hirokazu

Kore-eda Hirokazu was born in 1962 in Tokyo, Japan. After graduating from Waseda University in 1987, he joined TV Man Union where he directed several prize-winning documentary programs. In 1995, his directorial debut Maborosi won the Best Cinematography Award at the 52nd Venice International Film Festival. Film After Life (1998) was distributed in over 30 countries and brought him international acclaim. His films Distance (2001), Nobody Knows (2004) and Air Doll (2009) were selected to show at the annes Film Festival and film Like Father, Like Son (2013) won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and many other awards in various International Film Festivals.
