Mysterious Count Orlok moves into Wisbourg – and the same year, the port is struck by the plague. Real estate agent Hutter feels he might have brought disaster to his hometown but Orlok is more interested not in the dilapidated house but in Ellen, the young man’s wife. The first screen adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula is an ode to silent film, gothic aesthetics and the psychological complexity of horror that paved the way for the history of the horror genre that followed. Specially for the screening at Scanorama, this masterpiece of cinema was given an original score by the Lithuanian composer Marius Salynas.
