DESPITE THE NIGHT

Jei galėtume turėti tokią patirtį, bent akimirkai. Pajusti absoliučią instinkto galią. Niekada nenorėtume grįžti į savo gyvenimus.

English musician Lenz (actor Kristian Marr) searches for his lover Madeleine, who has mysteriously disappeared, but tumbles into an amour fou with troubled, self-destructive Héléne (actress Ariane Labed). Grieving the loss of her infant son and stalked by Lenz, Héléne seeks oblivion in the murky subterranean world of a brutal sex ring. Despite the Night is a stark, elliptical and hauntingly spectral story about loss and jealousy with scenes of sensual abandon and raw carnality.

Philippe Grandrieux

Philippe Grandrieux’s work covers several areas of kinetic visual arts: feature film, experimental television, video art, documentary, museum and gallery installations. His uncompromised vision leads him to push the boundaries of whatever field he is working in: the result is an ever inventive, truly radical cinema. Grandrieux’s first three feature films, Sombre (Special Jury Prize at the 1998 Locarno Film Festival), A New Life (2002) and A Lake (Special Jury Prize at the 2009 Venice Film Festival in the Orizzonti section) demonstrate his profound and radical exploration of image, sound and narrative structures.
