A British family prepares to sell their summer house in Southern France. Teenage Elliot (played by Alex Lawther) explores his sexuality, while his mother Beatrice (Juliet Stevenson) tries to fight the loneliness caused by the unsuccessful marriage. The appearance of an enigmatic local boy Clement (Phénix Brossard) awakens new and unfamiliar desires both to Elliot and his mother. Mother and son have to confront each other and themselves. The story of Departure is touched by myth and landscape. The childhood and the marriage come to an end., and so does the age of the traditional family.
