Pudana Last of The Line

A young Chukchi girl Nothing against her will is taken from her family's wigwam and forced to go to primary school in a Russian village. For the first time in her life, Neko is surrounded by another language and culture, she rebels against attempts to turn her into Russian. It is ridiculed by classmates and constantly pressured by teachers, so Neko decides to run away and secretly return to the family. The girl persuades a classmate Chuck Parasi to run together. The children are fleeing through a cold and ruthless tundra and it becomes clear that they will soon be forced back into school. Nothing - the last one like her - has moved away from her legacy.

“Living in primary school is a great way to tell the lives of minorities, where you can see very clearly how smaller cultures are being transformed into dominant ones. In our film, we wanted to discuss minority status at school, but not at the official level. The miniature world of primary school only shows how brutal racism can be in smaller communities. Mutual prejudices and stereotypes learned at home break out spontaneously with children in actions and words, ”said film directors Anastasia Lapsui and Markku Lehmuskallio.
