Salomé Lamas Masterclass

How can we erase the border between fact and fiction? The work of Salomé Lamas (b. 1987, Lisbon) challenges the apparent boundary between documentary and fiction in the moving image. Her projects play with genres and artistic categories expanding the notion of cinema and visual art as such. She tackles the notion of «waiting» and «expectation», leading the spectator into unknown realities – even metaphysical trance at times – that might present some kind of awkwardness.

Focusing on the works presented at the festival but also discussing her art practise and research in general, the masterclass will discuss the porous boundary between documentary and fiction in Salomé Lamas’ work. While looking at the ways she works with hybrid documentary and artistic projects that challenge genres as well as exhibition modes, the discussion will also give an insight on the very process of creating cinematographic content from reality-based material.
