A middle-aged philosophy teacher Nathalie (act. Isabelle Huppert) hears from her husband that he's leaving her after 25 years of marriage. At the same time her mother dies in the care home and her publisher informs her about the decision to discontinue the series of philosophy textbooks she used to edit. The woman is suddenly faced with total freedom.

Mia Hansen-Løve is a French director and scriptwriter. She was awarded the Special Jury price as the best director in the selection of Un Certain Regard in Cannes Film Festival 2009, for her film Father of My Children. Mia Hansen-Løve was awarded the Silver Bear as the best director for her film Things to Come.
